Job Description:

The Laboratory of Dr. Andrea Bonetto in the Department of Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to work, among others, on a project recently funded by the American Cancer Society. The laboratory focuses on understanding the mechanisms responsible for the musculoskeletal changes that occur with cancer or chemotherapy (i.e. cachexia). Available projects include characterization of changes in the regulation of muscle mass and function in cachexia. Analysis of bone quality and of metabolic changes in cancer-induced wasting and in response to chemotherapy will also take place thanks to collaborations within the newly established Indiana Center for Musculoskeletal Health (ICMH).

Minimum Requirements:

The ideal candidate must have a doctoral degree (PhD) in applied physiology, biochemistry, biology, biotechnology or related fields. Specific experience with muscle and/or bone tissue is highly encouraged. Evidence of publication history in the musculoskeletal research field is also required. The candidate must be willing to work with animals and provide evidence of previous experience with the use of experimental mouse models. Previous experience with cell and molecular biology techniques, including qPCR, western blotting, ELISA, cell culture, is also desirable. The candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as a desire to learn new techniques, write manuscripts/reports/protocols, present data at meetings and conferences, train and mentor students. He/she will also be able to work independently or with very limited supervision. The applicant must be able to multitask and show interest in contributing to several projects ongoing in the lab.
